The part that actually matters with a retaining wall is what you can't see once it's finished: the drainage behind it. A wall without proper drainage will fail eventually, no matter how good it looks going in. We plan the drainage first, then build the wall around it.

Grading and drainage
We look at the slope and soil first and plan the drainage. That's what makes a wall actually last.

We dig and pour a footing sized to the height of the wall.

The wall goes up with reinforcement, and we backfill with drain rock as we go.

Final grading so the wall looks like it belongs there instead of bolted on.
